What I Eat in a Day — Assamese Recipes Edition
Breakfast to dinner, featuring the Assamese dishes I grew up with and still cook wherever I am.
One of the questions I get asked most is about food. What do I eat? Is Assamese food really that different?
Yes, absolutely — and it's something I'm so proud to share.
Breakfast is usually something light — pitha (Assamese rice cakes) when I have time, or just toast with chai. But on lazy Sundays, it's a full spread.
Lunch is where the magic happens. Dal, bhaat (rice), and some kind of vegetable dish. Sometimes fish curry with fresh fish from the local market. The spice profile of Assamese food is different from other Indian cuisines — we use a lot of mustard oil, bamboo shoots, and herbs that you won't find in typical Indian restaurants.
Dinner is lighter — maybe a soup or a simple stir-fry. I love experimenting with traditional flavors in new ways.
Cooking these dishes is more than just food — it's culture, it's memory, it's home on a plate.
